Obituary of Edgar L Kitchin

Mr. Edgar L. Kitchin, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center, New Hartford.

     Edgar was raised and educated in Vernon, NY.  After high school he proudly served our county in the US Marine Corp. After his honorable discharge he followed in his mother (Isma Kitchen) footsteps, and he proudly became a registered nurse.  He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the St. Elizabeth’s College of Nursing in 1990, then received a degree from MVCC specializing in mental health.  He was employed for several years at Central New York Psych Center and his latest work was at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. 

     Edgar was fond of sail boating and woodworking, however his favorite was attending and entering dog shows which he received first and second place ribbons for agility.

     Ed is survived by a sister Imogene Harrington, nephews Dan Althouse, David Althouse and several other family members from the Rochester area, six step-children Mark Henderson and his wife Lisa, Nancy Zoeckler, Sherry Diefenbacher, James Henderson and his wife Michelle, John Henderson and his wife Zandra, Chad Hoffman and his wife Madel, their mother Lynne Kitchin and several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

     Visitation for family and friends is Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 4PM-5:30PM at the Heintz Funeral Service, Inc. 408 Herkimer Road, N. Utica followed by a funeral service at 5:30PM at the conclusion of visitation.  He will be laid to rest later in the spring in Verona Cemetery with his mother.

     Mr. Kitchin’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Sitrin Heath Care, Hickory housing unit for their wonderful care and compassion they provided Edgar.
